hal does not detect device

I use Ubuntu Warty, and I have problems with hal on one of my machine. I
have an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card in my machine, and my scsi disk and
CD-ROMS work well. But in device manager (or with lshal) I can see the
host adapter only but I cannot see the drives (or the volumes in the
CD).

More, the hal can't see the USB drive (Fuji finepix s304 camera) either,
though I can mount it as /dev/sdb1 manually.

Anybody has any tips what should I try or lookup?
