Startup sounds no longer play?

Hi there,

I've left this for a little bit, hoping it was a passing problem..that 
and I try not to reboot too often

But when I boot up, I get the sound at the logon page to say that logon 
is ready, however I no longer receive the startup3.wav

I've gone into System > Preferences > Sound and when I click on Test 
nothing happens.

I can play the sound through xmms and am having no other sound problems 
other than this.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if they have 
found a solution?
