Here here. Totem and Gstreamer are trash. I don't even know why they
were included in a release. They're nowhere near ready for that yet. I
don't use either. 

I grabbed the w32codecs from the mplayer Debian unsupported repository
(when the hell is Debian going to include mplayer anyway??) and then
installed Xine. Works great, plays anything.
