Open a terminal and type "$PATH" at your shell prompt. Press enter then.
You will have a list of directories where your shell will look for 
executables files. So, your applications binaries has to be placed there 
for a correct working.

I think this is because you don't have correct codecs.
Try "apt-get install w32codecs".
