Updating Ubuntu

I would probably recommend (from my own personal experience) that you do
a fresh install from a hoary cd image.

I installed from a weekly hoary dvd image about a fortnight ago, and
have been mightily impressed by the stability - and especially by the
integrated drivers for the notorious texas instruments wireless
interface cards (commonly used by netgear nics).
