ahh, gnome crashes after latest kernel upgrade

I dist-upgrade'ed, rebooted into the new 2.6.10-4-686-smp kernel and
Gnome loads up... the splash screen goes away... the panels start to
load, and then everything just hangs. Nothing shows up in the panels.
Maybe an applet caused the crash??? maybe not. I rebooted twice and it
happened both times. The third time i booted back into the
2.6.10-3-686-smp kernel and everything is working again.

Has this happened to anyone else?
