Upgrading Ubuntu is rather simple. For a high speed connection it's
just one command:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

That's it. Go get yourself some coffee and relax. Of course, if you
don't have a high-speed connection, get a copy of the latest CD (either
from someone who does or from the YouShipIt program) and when it
arrives, add it to your apt-sources list and do the same command. It's
a bit quicker than downloading everything, but at the same time, it can
take forever for the disc to get to you.

That's the beauty of being based on Debian for you.
