Ubuntu's performance : how to speed up ?

Also, you _really_ don't want a machine with a high-speed scsi disk in a
room you plan to spend any actual time in. It's a bit like sitting next
to a jetplane taking off, sound-wise.

As Thom says, it's not worth it even a little bit.
