open source tyranny exposed

I suppose the kernel maintainers have good reasons to remove the hook
from the kernel. After a little googling ive learned that the pwc
decompressor hooks are a GPL violation and were therefor removed from
the kernel.
I dont know why they are considered to be a violation though.

Also a distro can patch the kernel they distribute themselves, that way
endusers wont even notice it.

So my first reaction is that the pwc maintainer is a little childish
here by stopping support on pwc at all just for not having his code in
the kernelsource. He simply couldve continued supportiing his work
through kernel patches.

But i could be wrong ofcourse,, :)
