I have been using Codeweavers' Crossover Office for a while now on three
different distros of Linux, and it seems to work pretty well. I run MS
Office 2000, mostly Word because I don't want to reboot into Windows to
work on files from the office. It runs Word quite well, with only the
occasional bad behavior of a template, which just means I have to close
and restart Word. No real problem as long as I have been saving my work,
as I'm supposed to anyway. Crossover sets up a fake Windows environment
and when it does the installation of the Windows programs it supports it
does fake reboots (without really rebooting) just like you were doing
stuff on Windows. I paid the price last year, and since then, they have
allowed me to download upgrades whenever they come along. I keep the
downloaded files in my /home directory so I can reinstall Crossover whenever I
do any reinstalling or upgrading of a distro. I have also backed it up
on a CDR. For the programs they support, it's wine that works without
much bother on my part.
