FWIW, I use VMWare on Hoary -- works fine. However I installed it
back when this machine was running Debian, so I can't vouch for the
installation being issue-free ;)

1 minor glitch: VMWare and udev don't get on. quick fix: run this script
before starting vmware:

    #!/bin/sh
    sudo mknod /dev/vmmon c 10 165
    sudo mknod /dev/vmnet0 c 119 0
    sudo mknod /dev/vmnet1 c 119 1
    sudo mknod /dev/vmnet8 c 119 8

- --j.
