Unfortunately, Audacity does not work well with the sound server (ESD)
that Ubuntu uses. It doesn't work with any sound server from what I
understand. The only way I have been able to use it is to type
'killall esd' in a terminal before starting the program. You can then
restart esd afterwards, but this is still not a great method. I wish
I knew of a better way, but this is the only way I have figured out.
Audacity is a great program other than that, however, and I wish it
could find some way to get along with the sound servers used in Linux.
