Hello,
[My first time on the list...]
Even it's maybe difficult to find a reseller for you, as far as I am
concerned, I would suggest an IBM Thinkpad. I have an R40, everthing
worked out of the box on ubuntu (but the built in modem I have not
tested). A friend of mine owns an R50, the same, Another friend owns an
older Thinkpad-modell, and even there everything worked with a little
bit tweaking. With debian testing it was no big problem either on my
R40. As a plus, there is an mailing list specially for Linux on
Thinkpads
(http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-thinkpad) with
a friendly community, too.
Some issues may arise with acpi and software suspend, but with newer
kernels and a little bit more time, this problem gets smaller and
smaller, the developing in this field is very active...and there are
differences in the different modells. With some it works already, with
some others there are issues to solve...
(see: http://ibm-acpi.sf.net/)
And the quality of IBM Thinkpads is near to legendary ;-) and the
support is very good, too, and that's not only my saying, that's the
general feeling on the thinkpad-mailinglist mentioned above...
On the ubuntu wiki there is some useful information, too:

Hope that helped!
