Warty : how many CD's did Ubuntu ship ??

Ah yes, didn't think of that ;o)

Still, we could count what comes from the main server, and the CD's we
ship. That would give a 'minimum' number, something we are sure of.
The we could always ask the mirrors their numbers too. They aren't
hundreds of mirrors anyway (according to the download page on Ubuntu's
site), so shouldn't that big a job to gather the numbers. The mirros
maintainer could just send a quick e-mail to Ubuntu with their stats. Or
maybe even, modify a wiki page themselves ?

Also, for more relaible numbers, what about "registering" Ubuntu when
you install it. For example once you have finished installing it, and
you are logged in for the first time, a little dialog window pop's up,
kindly suggesting/asking you to "click here" to quickly connect to the
Ubuntu server to say that there is one more machine using Ubuntu (and
what platform it's using) ?

This way, we would get more accurate numbers, regardless of where people
got their copy from ?
