USplash ? (Paul Sladen ?)

I just tried Hoary Array 4, and I see that USplash is not yet ready. 
I wonder what the progress is on that front, does it look like it will
be ready for Hoary ? Or is it proving technically too challenging and is
going to requre more time to be fully sorted out ?

If it doesn't make it into Hoary, can we hope that at least, it will
allow the use of conventional/old style Boot splash, like in Mandrake
(only other reference I have...° or Warty's Live CD ?

This way people could DIY their own splash. Problem is that with Warty
this isn't even possible, at the time, I was explained that basically
the Kernel lacked something ?
I hope, then, that Hoary will come with everytinhg needed for people to
make their own boot splash, should USPlash not be ready in time ?
