Three newbie questions

hmmmm.....
What version of Windows are you running? Anything as recent as Win2k
will work with cmd, Win98 and back older you'll need to type
'command'.
Did you hit the Start button, then Run? An alternate way to bring the
Run dialog up is by hitting the Windows key with the letter R......
Don't worry, we'll this information somehow. :)
