In most setups like you have described (assuming I read it correctly),
you should be able to use DHCP as the setting for your network card and
the router will hand it all the info it needs (IP Address, Subnet,
Default Gateway, and DNS).
If that does not work, please paste the output from ipconfig from your
Windows computer (run ipconfig at the DOS prompt), and also the output
from ifconfig on your Ubuntu system (run ifconfig at the command
prompt).
This will help sort out what is happening.
