had the same problem with croatian and bosnian layouts. it is, I suppose, a small bug in graphical config tool which adds ([space] us) after selected layout: layouts = [hr us,us] conf should look like layouts = [hr,us] and can be fixed through [applications] [system tools] [configuration editor] /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/xkb -- bgz
