XFCE Team ? (call for MOTU help)

hi everybody,

since many ubuntu people seem to use xfce and it may be a good
alternative for low power systems, the ubuntu universe still holds very
ancient packages of this desktop environment.

in my function as the secretary of the MOTU master (Chris Halls) i would
like to send out a call to the ubuntu universe users...

"Please support us to support our users !!"

i dont think its the right way to install foreign packages in your
ubuntu which may break your system some day (due to broken dependencys
or changes in the package). there already are .debs for xfce it would
only need somebody to adjust small things and to upload them to
universe. so everybody could participate here, the users because they
have ubuntu maintained packages, ubuntu because it gets more universe
maintainers and YOU, if you always wanted to be a developer but didnt
want to sit for ages on a long debian NM list until you get approved.

now is the time to start your travel to the universe, go on and help
your favorite distro.

i would like to see a team (two or more people) formed around xfce that
cares for the packages, looks for bugs or pointreleases upstream and
sends fixes there (and to debian too if the versions eventually match
again)

please discuss this, and if you are interested and have put a team
together please contact me (or Chris) so i will guide you through the
steps becoming universe maintainers.

if you got questions about the process that go beyond the description
here: https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/MOTU
...then feel free to ask.

ciao
