openoffice.org: Choosing 'Open' from Writer menu causes crash error and application hangs

Chris,

   Here's the output of the oowriter command:

 > oowriter

libgnomevfs-ERROR **: file gnome-vfs-cancellation.c: line 133 
(gnome_vfs_cancellation_cancel): assertion failed: 
(gnome_vfs_is_primary_thread())
aborting...
sh: crash_report: command not found

The error dialog that shows up in Writer is:

An unrecoverable error has occurred.

All modified files have been saved and can probably be recovered at 
program restart
