Installing XFCE 4.2

I'm trying to install XFCE 4.2 from the binaries availalbe on os-cillation.

Error I get when trying to install:
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.
!! Failed to configure libxfce4util, see the errors above
!! for details on the problem.

Does anybody have any ideas about this. gcc and cpp are installed.
