Actually, I am using the laptop without a battery, as a desktop.  This 
might confuse Ubuntu, I'm not sure, but at least in WinXP I can freeze 
it just the same whether it's on cable or on batteries.  Since I have 
Real Things to do, no, I'm not the one to debug into this. Not right 
now, anyway.
