mnt vfat Newbie Question.

Anyone know the ins and outs of the mnt command? The
following is what I have set up in my /etc/fstab (as
recommended at The Unofficial Ubuntu 4.10 Starter
Guide http://ubuntuguide.org/):

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/fat32 vfat umask=000
 0 0

In doing some reading on the subject, I understand
that it is possible for me to do the following instead
and get a desktop icon for my Fat32 drive on the
desktop:

/dev/hdb1 /mnt/fat32 vfat
defaults,users,auto 0 0

Can anyone explain the differences between the two?
When I tried the "defaults, users, auto" version, it
seemed a little buggy in Ubuntu Warty. Sometimes the
icon would appear, other times not.

Cheers,

Brian
