Does the Sistina LVM really allow for RAID? From what I have read,
Sistina LVM runs on top of the device mapper, which AFAIK will only
allow aggregation of devices (i.e. not even proper striping). If you
use the MD subsystem, you do get the full RAID capabilities, little
things like hot spares etc.

Running LVM on top of MD devices is not only supported, but a good
idea if you start running large RAID5 arrays.

I keep hearing people touting LVM as some sort of a RAID solution.
While Sistina LVM is good, it ain't MD by anyones standards.

Just my €0.02
