New LCD Monitor "Just Worked" (?)

Dear all,

I got a NEC LCD 17 inch monitor for Christmas.

I was using an old no-name 17 inch CRT monitor.

I plugged in the Nec and fired up Ubuntu. I figured I'd have to make a quick 
change to a console and reconfigure the xserver, but it just seemed to work 
"out of the box".

Is this normal, or should I do the reconfigure?
