I am very ignorant about Cameras, but I know I have a USB photo camera
which records videos and saves them as .AVI

To get either pthotos or videos, I just mount it to a dir I already
manually (sudo mkdir /mnt/UsbCamera) created but you could mount it to
any dir it has no contents under it, preferably.

$ sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/UsbCamera

(or, $ sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/UsbCamera)

Then I copy or rsync the contents in it to a dir in my /home

$ cp -R /mnt/UsbCamera/* /home/me/SomeDir

Maybe, if you just mount it, you'll see the files from Kino.

BTW, have you tried other application to edit video?
