Update packages from local hard disk

Ok, so I downloaded the newer version of OpenOffice, untared the 
package, did an

sudo alien *.rpm

to the rpms and i got my deb's.

Now i want to update the already installed version of OpenOffice without 
having to uninstall
the older version first. In rpm one can do

rpm -Uvh *.rpm

but i couldn't find anything similar for dpkg.
