Hello all,
After using a how-to we can find at
http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_ubuntu_5.10 in order to setup my
personal hosting server, I was wondering if it wouldn't be possible to simply
include a meta-package that would easily install and create a complete ?ISP
setup? on Ubuntu server.
Maybe this has been discussed already, but a LAMP setup including a DNS, FTP,
mail server and a free web-hosting control panel would be really nice as
companies and users could simply install this package and answer a few debconf
questions (or use a configuration file?) to have their servers up and running.
Another problem is that a lot of people are asking all the time what they should
use for their servers. For example, *BSD vs. Linux? and if Linux, which
distribution? Then it comes to which mail or ftp server to use, etc. But I
guess, most of them would simply use what has been chosen ?for them? by the
Ubuntu team, as long as it's easy to install and integrates well "out of the
box".
This possibility could make Ubuntu their server platform of choice for the same
reasons Ubuntu has now been the desktop of choice for a lot of people.
Many thanks.
