Mysql 4.1, empty blobs

Hi,

I dont know if I encountered a bug but it smells like it. Im unable to
insert blobs via JDBC from my webapp into the MySQL (version
4.1.12-1ubuntu3) server. The blobs remain null in the database after the
updates. No exceptions are thrown from the JDBC driver. I have tried with
different Java versions with the same result. I am currently using the
Blackdown-1.4.2-02 build.

I removed the Ubuntu version of MySQL and installed the original MySQL
4.1.16 from mysql.com. The blobs are now correctly inserted and retreived
from the database.
