Slow Printing on Brother HL-5050 -- More Memory?

Anyone use this (or similar printers) and experience a slow down --
minutes -- when printing anything with images? I note that I can upgrade
the RAM from 16MB to 144MB, however, I'd rather not spend the money
unless I knew that things would speed up. The machine that is acting as
the printer server is plenty quick, so I'm pretty sure that isn't the
bottleneck.
