X server Error

I installed the latest release on my hp pavilion laptop last night. Dual 
booted with windose. everything loaded fine, but after inital start up 
screen loads,  I have an X-server error. , clicking through brings me to 
a text prompt. Typing X at promt brought me this error code

EE Radeon(o): (dri)DRIscreenInit failed Disabling DRI

I am relatively new to the Ubuntu OS, and could use some help figuring 
this out.What I have gathered so far from my searching the Wiki and 
documentation is that this is probably a configuration or driver issue. 
But I am lost as to how to proceed. Any help or links would be appreciated
