Microphone problem

I have ubuntu 5.10 and my microphone isnt working too.

Well, all possible  'highlited', and still with problems.

My mic is mute, I can't hear my own voice, can't record and can't speak
at skype or another voIP.



When I go to the capture screen in alsamixer (hiting TAB) I can't
highlight MIC and there is:

CAPTUR

<  MIC   >





What it mean? 

OBS: The sound is working OK, I can hear mp3, change volume, etc.

I'm using UBUNTU 5.10 kernel  2.6.12-10-386
