Unfortunately,  ubuntuguide.org is out of date now. It also has
recommendations that break things. Please don't recommend it. This has
been discussed on this list - and those helping on the forums and IRC will
thank you not to point people to this URL any more. 

It was a great contribution, and helped many people, so I'm not
criticising the author at all. Just that better resources are now
available.

A better source of  information now is http://help.ubuntu.com
