"bounce" a nic in one command?

Combine the two commands into a single pipeline:
ifdown ; ifup <enter>
You will still loose connection if you changed the address, but if all
goes well, you should be able to reconnect right away. If all does not
go well, I hope you have a backup plan for regaining control of the
machine.
