Hmm...I went directly to ATI's site and followed their docs. Follow this
http://www.linux-laptop.net/hosted/r4000-gentoo.html
to find the ATI proprietary driver. The driver performs a scan to see
what ATI card you have and sets technobabble up as needed. Try
removing the default xorg and use the ATI one to make the xorg.conf
file.
