Sigh, yet it's free as in beer to use... But this isn't really a
surprise... to get a version of pine that was good with Fedora I had to
add a third party repository to yum.conf... for similar reasons.

Well methinks that either way, I might better fire up fedora, mount my
kubuntu partition and my 15 gig tmp work space partition, then  make a
tar back up of it prior to trying either of the above...

But actually with such concise instructions (provided that they are
accurate) I too think the U wash tarball is probably the safer way to
go...
