partition manager...[ubuntu 5.10 installation issues]

partition manager...
I have a multi-boot system currently includes win98 (seldom used),
dr-dos, MDK 9.1, Fedora core 1, fedora core 2 (which is supposed to
be core 4 by now but haven't had the time... But ubuntu sounded so good
to me that I decided to do ubuntu first), and it used to have MDK 10.1 on
/dev/hda4 which, is where I put ubuntu... (each of the linux systems has
at least 14 gig of file space. I do have a /boot partition, But I NEVER
let an installer mess with it, I'll manually add any newly installed
systems to it _IF_ I decide to keep them, until then, I go with a floppy
boot option) And I have a 15 gig "tmp" ext2 partition ( used for
downloading iso images, and making tar backups of my linux systems.)

All of my ext2 (only linux file system I'll accept) file systems passed
"fsck -t ext2 $filesystem  -a" according to the MDK 10.1 linux on
/dev/hda4 just prior to running the ubuntu installer (except of course
for /dev/hda4 which I told the partitioner to format as ext2 and mount
on /) Yet the partitioner insisted each and every one of them that it
hadn't formated had file system errors ??? But thankfully it allowed
me to continue on & use them as is... (NOTE: right after the install
was complete, I rebooted into my FC2 file system and did a 
fsck -t ext2 $filesystem  -a
on each of them, they all still passed without any repairs being listed
on the konsole screen...

What could cause the partitioner insist there were errors when fsck says
they are clean???

I mean is the file system scanning logic of this partitioner smarter
than fsck? Should I be worried about it? Or should I blissfully continue
believing in the ability of fsck to keep my ext2 filesystems viable???
