Unfortunately, for a lot of ADSL to ADSL work the down speed doesn't
matter very much, it's the up speed that's the limiting factor
(usually 256Kb here in the UK). And worse, the up speed can go
down (err... slower) if you have (can't remember the correct name)
'Adaptive' ADSL which slows the up speed first when phone line
conditions are bad.

As I said before, I've always had a bit of lag with VNC over any
bandwidth that I've used. For most of this year until a couple of
months ago I was using TSC(VNC) almost daily between two 512/256 ADSL
connections. While I would sometimes notice the colour depth was at
256 I don't really know how much of the time it was at that depth -
it wasn't really a problem for the use I was making of it.

My friend (with the other end of the ADSL mentioned above) will be
visiting me next weekend with his new box to replace the Redmond
software (he wants his Ubuntu back ;) I'll be using TSC ~daily
again and (out of interest) I'll make a note of the performance.
I'll post back here if I find any 'wrinkles'.
