Install on Compaq R4000

I know this is on the wrong thread but I was wondering if either of you
have installed kubuntu on a similar configuration. I also have the
compaq r4000 with the amd64 4000+ and I am able to get the initial boot
screen but when it finishes it's initial check it just goes to a black
screen and freezes there. I was thinking of just installing ubuntu and
then installing KDE afterwards if I can't get it to work with just
installing Kubuntu. Thanks guys.
