Switching from Evolution to Thunderbird....

Hi all,  I want to try out Thunderbird to see if I like it more than
Evolution.  My main concern is that I have ALOT of emails in evolution
from gmail, this list(through gmail) and my university account.  How can
I transfer them to Thunderbird so that they are all there?  I have been
using the default set up so I would imagine they are all in the place
that ubuntu originally stores them.  Easier the better please.... 
BTW, what packages do I need to install to make a full Thunderbird
install?
