installing skype

Steve,

Since this is a commercial project, you probably should just download
it from the Skype website.  Skype.com.  However, I have had little
luck installing it.  I tried the debian package, but this fails to
install because I am missing some dependencies, and the further I
went, the more it reminded me of RPM dependency hell.  Neither the
dynamic nor static builds worked either (libstdc++.so.5 missing, which
for some reason I cannot install because of a conflict in libQT).

Anyone had any good experiences with recent versions of Skype?
