I actually like Ubuntu as a server because of some of the fact that it
has a known release cycle, and since it's free, I can afford to
upgrade every time a new version is released. The apt system makes
doing this simple and manageable, even with a large number of systems.
In previous threads discussing this topic, I've heard a number of
people saying "I like debian as a server because of its long release
cycle. Updating a server every 2-3 years or so works for me."
In my case, I like to know when the updates are going to happen rather
than using the phrase "or so" when scheduling an upgrade. I also much
prefer to do small and simple updates every six months than
potentially more complex ones every 2-3 years "or so".
