editing Digital Video, authoring DVD's

"kino" appears appears to do exactly what you need... retrieve movies
from DV cameras via firewire, do some basic editing, then save it in DVD
format.

I also just discovered two very nice/promising video editing
applications for Gnome today, "diva" and "pititv", but it looks like
they won't be ready/mature enough before at least 6 months, whereas Kino
looks quite nice/usable at present.
Haven't actually used it since I don't have the spare dosh for a digital
video camera sadly...
