editing Digital Video, authoring DVD's

I need to shoot some dv, edit it, and then make it playable on a domestic 
DVD player. I don't need an exotic menu - just something basic and user 
friendly.

What are people using for editing and authoring.. and are they two 
seperate packages?

The camera is a Sony DV with firewire.

I've done some googling, but it would be nice to know what people have had 
success with.
