Parallel port test

Hi all,
have just had problems getting a HP Laserjet printer to work.
The end problem was that the parallel port had decided to go out to lunch
and didn't come back. Was passing some data, just not all of it,
Installed a pci card with parallel port on it, at last have a printer.

My question is, is there any simple way that a parallel port can be tested??

The  way I found out it wasn't working properly was to take a drive with 
Win98
on it out of my old machine where the printer was working fine, and put 
it in
this one, and printer not working.
