I should add, that there are two kernels and initrds that you can use.
One comes with network card drivers so that you can configure a
repositry and do the installation entirely over the net.  The others
have no network and will look for an iso image on your disk to install
from.  It should be reasonably obvious which is which from their
location on archive.ubuntu.com.

Oh, and if you do the iso method (you can name the iso anything you
like as long as its a proper Ubuntu install iso and its name ends in
iso) make sure you put it on a partition that you are not going to
use in the install.  You can reclaim the space later.
