Postfix + SASL random problems

So I am running Postfix/SASL on my server, and I am having what seems to 
be very sparatic issues with it.

Every now and again saslauthd just stops, I find nothing odd in the logs 
though.

My second issue, is just today I have been getting errors for SMTP 
authentication.  Being: could not connecto to saslauthd, and SASL PLAIN 
authentication failed.  Granted it is being sent over SSL so plain 
authentication should be fine, for what I need.

So I know that sasl/postfix runs in a chroot, and am not sure if this 
problem can just 'start acting up' or what but does anyone have any ideas?
