well all languages have pros and cons..

I gave a speak about python at the local linux user group
(http://phuturetech.info/svn/doc/lug/pyvortrag.pdf in german
unfortunately) some time ago. I think python is a well readable
language with which you can code a lot of stuff in much less time then
Java and C.

There is also enough tutorials, books, etc about python. A good one is
for example: http://diveintopython.org/
