Problems with arrow keys in totem

I've got a problem with the aarrow keys in totem  while playing video
files. According to the man pages, various combinations of the arrow keys,
shift, and control should allow me to jump forward or  back.

However, when I hit either  either right, or left arrow key, the  playback
freezes. I've duplicated this problem on 2 different machines.

How can I fix this?
