Indirectly. It replaced Fedora Core 3 (which replaced XP Pro) on this
laptop.
Incidentally, Ubuntu Breezy is more friendly to this laptop (JVC
MP-Xv841) than either Windows XP or Fedora Core 3. Windows didn't
handle hibernation properly - about half the time windows explorer would
just crash on resume. Fedora Core 3 would lose 3D after a hibernation
cycle - and that's after having to download and compile a custom kernel
just to get hibernation working in the first place.
I just wish Ubuntu handled switching from a wired network with DHCP to a
wireless network with static IPs (no that's not backwards) as gracefully
as FC3 did. (fixed with some tinkering about
with /etc/network/interfaces and a shell script bound to the wireless
kill switch)
Oh, and that ghemical didn't segfault as soon as you try to add an atom.
(fixed by compiling and installing via checkinstall the latest version
of ghemical)
Oh, and that hal didn't automatically unmount my compact flash cards as
soon as they are inserted and mounted (fixed by disabling
the /etc/dev.d/block/hal-unmount.dev script)
Oh, and that printing to my Samsung ML-1430 printer worked properly
(fixed by overwriting
Breezy's /usr/share/ppd/Samsung/Samsung-ML-1430-gdi.ppd.gz file with a
non-broken one from Fedora Core 3 before setting up the printer)
Overall, though, not *too* bad. I wouldn't have even needed a compiler
if not for that #%$* ghemical bug. :)
